Health-conscience consumers asked America's beef producers for a leaner product, and beef producers responded with many cuts of beef that are 20% leaner, on average, than they were in the early 1990s. Twenty of the 29 lean beef cuts average 166 calories in a 3-oz. serving and only one more gram of saturated fat than a comparable serving of skinless, boneless chicken breast.

Beef is a naturally nutrient-rich powerhouse that is an excellent source of five essential nutrients: protein, zinc, vitamin B12, selenium and phosphorous. It's also a good source of four essential nutrients: niacin, vitamin B6, iron and riboflavin. Beef is one of the most highly bio-available sources of iron in the American diet, yet iron deficiency is the leading deficiency in the US, affecting 7.8 million adolescent girls and women of childbearing age.

Beef tastes great, but it's also important to know that scientific research confirms the good news about beef's nutritional benefits and its vital role in a healthy diet for your family.
